  • Helium, one of the inert elements, is known by the formula He. As a rare gas, helium is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. It has the lowest solubility in water among any known gases, and the lowest density among any gases except hydrogen. Its density is 0.17847 g/L, melting point is -272.2℃ (25 atmospheres), and boiling point is -268.9℃ It is the most difficult gas to liquefy. It has a critical temperature of -267.9℃, and a critical pressure of 2.25 atmospheres. Once the temperature drops below -270.98℃ after liquefaction, it has little surface tension, strong thermal conductivity and almost no viscosity. Liquid helium can be used to achieve low temperature close to absolute zero (-273.15℃). The liquid helium can neither burn nor support combustion, with greatly inactive property. Helium is also the most difficult gas to liquefy.
